reasons to be cheerful, part 235

Posted By on Thu, Jun 2, 2005 at 11:05 AM

Don’t know if everyone’s already read Tracy Moore’s cover story this week, but I’m betting it’ll be the talk of the clubs all weekend (and probably for weeks to come). Somehow she managed to sound the oft-heard “Nashville’s rock scene is about to pop!” refrain with the proper balance of skepticism and hope, while encapsulating 25 years of ambivalence about the role, place and impact of that other Nashville music. And she even tackles the tough question everybody usually dodges, at least in public: did (or do) any of these bands deserve that coveted national audience?

A must read—especially for everyone I’ve heard complain about how much Nashville takes its club scene for granted.
