Because creativity is everywhere. Earlier today I was approached in the Kroger parking lot by a guy holding two clearly brand-new hammers. He explained to me that he was almost out of gas, and that he had recently bought these hammers to do some roofing work, but he didn't need them anymore, and would I like to buy them? I declined, as the hammer I already own sees very little action. Still, I appreciated his entrepreneurial spirit, and the fact that he had come up with such a complex pitch.
It reminded me of an incident in late 2001, when a middle-aged bearded guy with a shopping cart rolled up to me in Hillsboro Village and said, "George Harrison died! Can you give me a dollar for a beer?" As if one logically followed the other. But again, at least he bothered to think of an icebreaker.
