The Not-So-Frugal Gourmet

Posted by on Thu, Jan 20, 2005 at 5:23 PM

News outlets all over the country are reporting the garish extravagance of the Bush inauguration – liberals point to FDR’s 1945 $2,000 celebration, while conservatives counter back with, “Oh yeah, like John Kerry is the epitome of frugality.” However, I think people are missing the major issue, which is, of course, the Laura Bush Cowboy Cookies.

So many questions come to mind. Did Laura Bush make all 3,000 them herself? If not, can they really be called Laura Bush cookies? I guess that if Thomas Kinkade can paint all of those pictures of thatched country cottages, then Laura can claim the cookies as her own. But what exactly makes them cowboy-related? They are not shaped like cowboys. Is it because she’s Texan? How many cowboys does Laura really know, anyway? Have they tried her cookies? These are the important questions of our time and ones the Scene vows to answer. Right after we finish our $6 million Music City Pound Cake.
