imperial bathroom

I’m still not sure about the name of this blog. I’m suspicious of any single phrase that invokes both Kansas and urination.

As Elvis Costello sang, in one of the greatest lines ever to open a record, I just don’t know where to begin. I’m a pathetic latecomer to the blogosphere, still marveling at treasures like GreenCine Daily. The best I can do for now is point you in the direction of must-reads such as Theo Panayides, Steve Erickson, Missy Schwartz, Michael Sicinski, Ryan Wu, and my amazing colleague Donna Bowman. (I’d include Victor Morton, if he could be bothered to update his site before the Dems take back the White House.)

Why do these matter? They’re some of the freshest writing about movies available, and their links form a resistance network against the hype, the provincialism and the sense of entitlement that spoil so much film criticism (no exception here). Also, if not for Ryan’s blog, I’d never have known about this awesome trailer. And if not for Donna, I might have overlooked this eminently sensible response to the tsunami tragedy. Essential reading on Inauguration Day. (Follow it up here.)

OK, that’s about as political as I get. This is more my speed: outlaw cinema, Canadian daredevils, and Anna Nicole Smith outtakes. If you’ve got more stuff like this, share the wealth.
