In light of the election of Donald Trump, whose campaign for the White House regularly stirred up fears about runaway illegal immigration, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has released a statement clarifying the role local law enforcement will play in any mass deportation efforts undertaken by the Trump administration.

The president-elect has said he plans to deport two or three million people who have criminal records and outlined a policy that would, in some ways, continue the one President Barack Obama — who has deported more than two million people — has pursued. But Trump has also signaled that he would undo a variety of other actions Obama has taken on immigration.
