Spurgeon’s General Warning: Lazy Days

Posted By on Tue, Jul 8, 2014 at 10:58 AM

Summer is the laziest of all seasons, and I have been seduced by its ways. I mean, why bother? Who cares? It's hot and some day we're all going to die. (Funnily enough, "It's cold and some day we're all going to die" is a prominent theme of winter.) Just work from home, or "work from home," if you have the option. Drink one more beer. Watch SVU for six hours straight. Sit in a hammock and stop thinking for a minute. Nap? Boy, you'd better nap. I mean, what is a responsibility, really? Don't procrastinate, go hard with the lazy and blow everything off entirely. It's summer: Fuck it.

Bruno Mars, “The Lazy Song”

I am pro-Bruno Mars. I like his handsome little face and think he is good at singing and dancing. I want a Bruno Mars T-shirt for my birthday.

What a profoundly lazy series of thoughts.

The Lonely Island, “Lazy Sunday”

The first time I ever used YouTube was to look up this sketch. The sketch is, of course, long gone from the site by now, and all that remains is the song and an album cover. Internet memories: What a thing. Do you remember …

When you first signed up for Facebook?
When you first signed up for MySpace?
When you first signed up for Friendster?
The first porn site you found?
The first song you illegally downloaded?

The Internet is good for being lazy. How many non-work-related tabs do you have open right now? I bet, like, four.

Lily Allen, “Alfie”

It is very, very important to me that everyone knows this song is about Lily Allen's brother, Alfie Allen. He is not a puppet IRL. He is actually THEON GREYJOY FROM THE HIT HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES. Did this scathing ("scathing" is journalist speak for "measured and mediocre") song encourage him to stop smoking weed all day and be on a television show instead? Let's say yes, because it doesn't actually matter.
