Happy Monday! Hope everybody enjoyed their holiday weekend. You know how local morning program Fox 17 This Morning celebrated American independence? By inviting an English guy to play pedal steel on the July 4 edition of their show, that's how. The Brit in question is Spencer Cullum Jr., and along with Telecaster-slingin' picker Jeremy Fetzer and the rest of their "upcoming band" Steelism, he delivered a dose of countrypolitan-ized surf rock. Have a look above to see Steelism playing their tune "China Plate," a number from the band's 2013 split with fellow local Andrew Combs that you can stream or purchase right here. And here's a bit of trivia for you: "China Plate" is cockney slang for "mate." (Dip into some more cockney rhyming slang here.)
Anyhow, while anchor Jennifer Waddell notes that the guys from Steelism "are performing at Dancing in the Park," I believe what she means to say is that they had actually played the night before at Nashville Dancin'. Same thing, right? The fellas don't appear to have any upcoming in-town dates, but keep an eye on 'em here, and hear their most recent tune, a cut from their upcoming record 615 to Fame called "Cat's Eye Ring," right here.
