Legendary rock writer Legs McNeil — who co-founded Punk Magazine in 1976, thus coining the term “punk rock” — has a new book coming out (which he edited along with Gillian McCain) called Dear Nobody: The True Diary of Mary Rose (“a real teen's diary, so raw and so edgy that its authenticity rings off every page”), and he’s promoting it with a reading at Howlin’ Books/Grimey’s Too on July 16 at 6 p.m.

McNeil and McCain’s 1997 punk coffee-table book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk is essentially required reading for music fans and pop-culture wonks with even a passing interest in the genre. So you might wanna mark this one on your calendar. Stop in on your way to see KISS and Def Leppard at Bridgestone Arena.
