So you know rad local rock outfits Blank Range, Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders, RICHIE, JEFF the Brotherhood and Chrome Pony, but you may not yet be aware of Fist. Allow me to introduce you to Fist.* That's the super-group of sorts featuring Grant Gustafson, Chet Jameson, Jon Gottschalk and Ian Bush, all current and/or former members of the aforementioned bands. The folks at Made in Network recently stuck these four dudes together in local studio Club Roar with producers/engineers Michael Hardesty and Stephen Turney for an installment in their 24HR Records series. What resulted was a trifecta of groovy, surfy, riffy stoner-rock tunes: "My Way Home," "We've Got You Surrounded (My Latin Baby)" and "Headed West."
Above you can see a video documenting the process of recording all three songs, which is a bit like a compact, light-speed version of Behind the Music or Some Kind of Monster. "I gotta hand it to us, you know," says guitarist Jameson in the clip. "We did it. We came strong. I came strong. Then we came strong. But overall, it was a team effort. It wasn't one person. 'Cause one man can't do the work of a 20-mule team." Um, how about just a 10-minute super-cut of Jameson saying more shit like that, please? Anyway, you can hear all three of Fist's songs after the jump. Honestly? Pretty good stuff. Like some fierce hybrid of QOTSA and Kurt Vile. Or, you know, a mix of all the bands these guys are in.
