While all the hubbub down in Manchester has dominated our attention for the past week or so, a couple of pretty sweet concert announcements landed in the ol' inbox. First up, Banks has announced a visit to Cannery Ballroom on Sept. 24. Los Angeles' rising star of cool, dark and danceable R&B delivered a knockout set
at Bonnaroo last week, which included several numbers from her forthcoming debut LP, Goddess
, due Sept. 9. Teamed up with a two-man band on top of their game, Banks' stage presence made it tough for me to believe she's only been at this a short while. Tickets for the 18-and-over show start at $20, and go on sale right here
at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20.
Last week, Canadian indie-pop heroes The New Pornographers announced their first full-length in four years, Brill Bruisers, and their tour itinerary also includes a visit to Cannery this November. Tickets for that one also go on sale Friday at 10 a.m., start at $28, and will be available here. The title track has that ecstatic feeling of just leaving school for summer break, brimming with triumphant guitars and a choir of "ba ba ba" backing vocals. Stream a video, featuring the title materializing as a sort of neon worm sparkler trail, after the jump.
