Just five days from now, local indie-pop ensemble ELEL — or "el el," or "EL EL," or however they prefer to stylize it — will play Bonnaroo's On Tap Lounge. That's of course because they won the second installment of this year's Road to Bonnaroo band-competition series, earning their 'Roo slot with a set that, according to The Spin, "threw a ton of elements into the mix — guitar, bass, synthesizers, drums, percussion and horns — and kept them all balanced with style and grace."
Well hey, maybe you won't be at Bonnaroo this weekend but you'd still like to get a taste of some groovy, flower-child vibes. ELEL has what you need. Above you can see their brand-new video for "40 Watt" — a song that I called "a stomping, sparkling, plinking, lush, three-minute pop number that goes off in all sorts of directions" when we shared it last month. The vid was directed by ELEL frontman Ben Elkins and features various forms of feel-goodery: dancing in pastures, doe-eyed camera gazing and doling out paper hearts. Give it a look. ELEL's debut full-length, Geode, is due out later this year.
