How's about a quickie? Earlier this week we shared with you "Not Getting Any Younger" and "Thought It Couldn't Be This Way," the latest from local psychedelic rockers Penicillin. Follow me below to hear more from Sturgill Simpson, Nikki Lane, Forest of Tygers and Bedroom. As always, check out past weeks in fresh tracks here, and if you've got something for us, email cream[at]nashvillescene[dot]com.

Sturgill Simpson, "Life of Sin"

Two weeks ago, I got my socks knocked off by "Turtles All the Way Down," the latest video from the king of metaphysical neo-traditional country music, Sturgill Simpson. Simpson will release his Metamodern Sounds in Country Music on May 13, and we'll have some very special Sturgill-related goodies for you around that time. But for now, the far-out crooner has another dose of Metamodern to offer — he debuted his "Life of Sin" earlier this week via Esquire. Stream that above or via Soundcloud.

Nikki Lane, All or Nothin'

Leaf through this week's dead-tree edition of the Scene and you'll find contributor Marissa R. Moss' piece on All or Nothin', the latest from self-assured local songstress Nikki Lane. Lane debuted the record earlier this week via NPR's "First Listen" so head that way to hear it.

Forest of Tygers, Bruises

According to contributor Sean L. Maloney, local husband-and-wife metal duo Forest of Tygers make music "that is as intuitive as it is technical, with a groove and swing swirling amidst the unremitting drums and thrashing guitar." Heavy. Brutal. Unrelenting. Rad. As Mr. Maloney also points out, FOT will celebrate the release of their debut EP Bruises tonight at The East Room. You can stream Bruises right now above, or purchase it for any price you like via Bandcamp.

Bedroom, "We All Need Something (feat. Jade Lawhon)"

Oh hey, we've discussed Noah Kittinger's, um, bedroom-pop project Bedroom before. Pleasant, melodious, chilled-out vibes about in "We All Need Something" (above) and its video (below). Stream on, and stay tuned for Bedroom's LP, Grow, out May 20 via Furious Hooves Records.
