2013 was a hallmark year for Starlito. He released six impressive projects (three albums and three mixtapes), all of which are worth revisiting. Of all the music Starlito put out in 2013, his final release of the year, December’s Insomnia Addict, might stand out as his most remarkable work. The mixtape was dropped, unannounced, on his 29th birthday, marking the fourth time in his career that ‘Lito has released a full-length project on his birthday.
Insomnia Addict was recorded, mixed and mastered during a sleepless, 72-hour birthday retreat to Las Vegas, and ‘Lito has recently dropped a fascinating mini-documentary profiling the entire experience. On top of giving an intimate look into the creative process behind the mixtape, Insomnia Addict: The Documentary also details ‘Lito’s Vegas exploits, which include hanging out at Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail tour and kicking it with Las Vegas’ Tha Landlord. The mini-documentary even features a music video for “Hoodrich ... Freestyle,” one of the most memorable cuts from Insomnia Addict.
The release of Insomnia Addict: The Documentary was initially slated to coincide with the release of a music video for a song of the same name (“Insomnia Addict” is from ‘Lito’s prior release, Fried Turkey; it serves as the basis for the mixtape called Insomnia Addict), but still no news on that as of yet. While you wait for “Insomnia Addict” the music video to see the light of day, check out what ‘Lito’s been up to in the meantime:
A music video for “Eyes Closed," originally featured on Fried Turkey. Also featured on Insomnia Addict. Also shot during 'Lito's birthday retreat to Vegas. NSFW.
