The story of The Prisonaires is not just the tale of a classic recording, the 1953 Sun Records hit “Just Walkin’ in the Rain.” It’s also an enthralling saga of race relations, social justice, political reform and the redemptive power of music.
MTSU professor John Dougan detailed the story in his recent book, The Mistakes of Yesterday, the Hopes of Tomorrow: The Story of The Prisonaires, and the group’s signature song received a swank reissue in its original format thanks to Third Man Records’ Sun Records reissue series.
Now, film director Cass Paley is nearing completion of his documentary on The Prisonaires. He’s launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to complete the project, and an 11-minute preview is available at the film’s website and embedded after the jump. Above you'll find Paley's Indiegogo pitch video.
And for your daily requirement of chill-bump-inducing music, just give a listen to the clip of “Just Walkin’ in the Rain," also after the jump.
