I know what you guys are thinking: "Sean, Derek Minor is a Christian artist, and I thought you were a lapsed-Marxist, dirt-worshiping heathen." And you're right! On both counts! But I'm not of the rage-against-religion Atheist ilk — those cats are dicks — and I can't argue with a good song. The fact that Minor and I actually seem to be on the same page (the "material goods don't make you a good person or a good rapper" page) probably helps. The fact that Minor can lampoon the rap crowd and the prosperity-gospel crowd with sick wordplay and a sense of humor pretty much guarantees I'm going to dig it, philosophical and spiritual differences aside. But yeah, it is sort of weird for me to be posting a Christian artist. Whatevs, yo.
And now let's get on to some old-time party and bullshit ...
* Wait a second, is this another song about religion? Sorta, yeah, I guess so. But it's also OpenMic, who always kills, and another indictment of the "religion as fashion accessory" culture. Maybe it's because I spent the day writing about evil, ominous bands that I'm in the the mood for something a little, er, godlier? I dunno. this song kills though.
* I don't know much about Alocodaman — aside from the fact that scenester supreme and Break on a Cloud's photog queen Kelly Hite sent me the link. Well, I also know that I'm diggin' this and wouldn't mind hearing more.
* New Petty produced by Evan Blocker. Dope flute sample, deep groove — all you need to know.
* And Yelawolf is at Marathon tonight. But you knew that.
