My original plan for this week's column was to thoroughly eviscerate this dude and his cringe-worthy "Nashville Response" to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse, but I'm in a good mood and don't want to fuck with it by listening to shitty rap. Plus, Dee Goodz dropped a new video and it got a write-up over on XXL, which seems like a far more newsworthy event than a crappy MC desperately trying to hitch his cart to another fleeting bandwagon. Dee's been up in New York working on his new record, but this self-directed video for "Time Machine" was shot back in Nashville. It's a dark, tense track with a goth-y choral vibe and a gnarly synth pad that complements Goodz's honest, emotive, bullshit-free raps. Whatever Dee has been up to in NYC, it's definitely making him a better artist, and I'm pretty stoked to hear what FFM has to offer.
Now, let's get on with the rest of this party and bullshit ...
* And since we're on that Goodz tip, check out his feature on the new Boogz Boogetz. It's called "Rollin'" — a buttery slice of neo-G-Funk. I know you dig the neo-G-Funk.
* So "The World's Largest Hustle" isn't a local event — it's happening in Detroit — but Detroit could use a little love right now, you know what I'm saying? Plus, Big Fella's in the ad, and you know we love Big Fella. So yeah, The Hustle: Do it.
* Well, this was not what I was expecting. What starts with an "Unchained Melody" and a Patrick Swayze joke takes a turn for the fucked and becomes a weird tale of stalking and kidnapping fantasies? But all done in a sort of satirical way? I feel a little uncomfortable, but I also feel like I'm going to have to check Brandon Brains' album before I make a call.
* Sure this one is an oldie, but it popped up in my feed; it's Friday and I ain't got shit to do. Also, Fistikuffs are pretty fucking funny.
Got a response to "The Verse"? Send it to someone else, I'm over that shit. Kidding! Send videos, tracks and desperate attempts for attention to cream[at]nashvillescene[dot]com.
