Who says MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore? They do, at least online. That’s where you can check out Diarrhea Planet’s latest clip, for their song “Separations,” off DP's latest anthem-replete long-player I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams. Read D. Patrick Rodgers’ feature from this week’s Scene to get the scoop on album, which drops Tuesday via Infinity Cat, and which the pop-rockin’ power-punk sextet celebrates with a sure-to-be-the-shit-show record release tomorrow at Exit/In.
If you head to the show expecting to party, satisfaction is guaranteed — so long as you come expecting the band to affably scoff at your shenanigans. "Most of [the band’s] party lyrics before, it wasn't even actually me being like, 'Party hard' or whatever," DP singer Jordan Smith told the Scene’s DPR of the band’s trademark hedonistic lifestyle lyrics. "It was more like bitter satire, making fun of people who live like that.” And that kind of hard livin’ is precisely what’s on display in the “Separations” video (embedded above). Think of it as the band’s take on Smashing Pumpkins’ classic “1979” spot, but with more backyard fireworks, a singer with hair and a bunch of weird shit involving food.
