What do you do when you pick up the telephone only to find yourself on the other end? This is the quandary posed by T. Rust's brand-new Sean Conley-directed video for "House," which you can watch above. T. Rust is the project of onetime Murfreesboroan and current Nashvillian Taylor Rust, whose Dimes EP you can stream below or purchase for $5 via the T. Rust Bandcamp page. Dimes displays the dreamy haze of modern indie rockers like Real Estate, Best Coast or even, sure, locals Those Darlins — as a matter of fact, former Darlin Kelley Anderson recorded and played bass on Dimes.
I want to say that "House" reminds me of post-punk greats The Fall, but I know that's only because of the song's minor lyrical similarities to "My New House." I suppose you could say, however, that both T. Rust and The Fall do away with ceremony, opting instead for the raw informality that was donated to rock 'n' roll by the blues. Or maybe that's over-thinking it. Either way, T. Rust will celebrate the release of Dimes this Friday, May 10, at The End. Also on that bill are fellow recent Cream discoveries Blank Range. Both bands are quite good. So there's a thing to do with your Friday.
