Infinity Cat 'Visitors Center' to 'Never Open' Starting April 27

A while back, the Cream reported that Infinity Cat Records had plans to open a retail shop in their headquarters at 467 Humphreys, possibly by summer. That is still mostly true. Robert Ellis "Bob Cat" Orrall tells the Cream that what they're opening is "not a store," but rather a "visitors center." And it will "never open." What he means by that is there will be no regular open-to-the-public hours, or regular hours of any sort. Starting April 27, anyone who wants to come by is instructed to call the Infinity Cat Hotline at 615-730-8417 to find out if someone's there to let you in. The goal is to "always be low-key," Orrall says.

According to REO, the not-a-shop is a response to requests from fans who have wanted to stop by when they're in Nashville. Now they'll have something to visit aside from a small office and a kitchen.

There will be records for sale, of course, and ICR logo coffee mugs, but "the best part," Orrall says, "is that 80 percent of it will only be in the store" and not available through the label's website. That stuff includes out-of-print items like the last original MEEMAW T-shirt, for instance, and band tour posters, some of them from other countries — that sort of thing.

And while there won't be regular business hours, there will be impromptu times of openness, which will be announced via the label's various social media accounts. Instagram followers will get to see new items (including vintage records, radios and magazines) as they are added to the shop visitors center.
