Alt-J To Play the Ryman Sept. 21

Posted By on Fri, Apr 12, 2013 at 12:09 PM

"Triangles are my favorite shape!" sings Alt-J frontman Joe Newman in the song "Tessellate" (see that video above). You don't say! While Alt-J's band name is pronounced "Alt-J" and most typically written as "Alt-J," their true, original, proper name is of course ∆ — a delta, or as geometry buffs might notice, a triangle! This is the symbol you get when you type the key sequence alt (option) + J on Apple Mac OS X. But enough of the introductory-level-trivia portion of this post.

The art-rocking, Mercury Prize-winning Brits of Alt-J — despite having just played Nashville's Cannery Ballroom on March 18 — will return to Music City for a show at the Ryman on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Mother Church of Country Music of course has just over twice the capacity of Cannery Ballroom, further proving that Alt-J, who is still touring on last year's debut LP An Awesome Wave, continues to ride a growing wave of popularity thanks to what a press release refers to as the band's "skeletal-folktronica." Tickets for the show will run you $30, and those go on sale at this link Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. Opener will be announced next week. If you feel like getting a taste of what's to come, you can live-stream Alt-J's Coachella performance right here tonight at 7:10 p.m. Central.
