Cream / Music Shovels and Rope Cover Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits for Third Man Records Single [Fresh Track]

Just a week after the release of Brittany Howard and Ruby Amanfu's Rodriguez-covering Third Man Records Blue Series single — the A-side of which you can now stream at the TMR home page, by the way — comes this bit of news: On April 2, TMR will release another Blue Series single from Charleston indie-folk duo Shovels and Rope. The 7-inch will feature a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Johnny 99" on the A, with a version of Tom Waits' "Bad As Me" on the B. The single is available for pre-order at this link.

You can already hear the A-Side — S&R's sparse, barroom-stomp-boogie take on The Boss's "Johnny 99" — at Third Man's Soundcloud page or embedded below. As noted earlier today, Shovels and Rope will open for Dawes June 9 at the Ryman. Tickets for that are on sale here Friday at 10 a.m.
