Road Trip to Gulf Shores: Hangout Fest Announces 2013 Lineup [Tom Petty, Kings of Leon, Kendrick Lamar, More]

Unless your sweet home is Alabama, there are only a couple conceivable reasons to ever visit the Yellowhammer State: The Hangout Music Festival is one of them. Today the three-day festival — which for the fourth year in a row takes to sands of Gulf Shores May 17-19 — announced its initial 2013 lineup. Topping the bill are Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Kings of Leon and the Trey Anastasio Band.

At press time, Hangout is one of three stateside festival gigs the Kings have on the books, and the closest thing to a homecoming for the Southern rockers, who haven’t played in since aborting their 2011 U.S. tour only three shows in. Glad to see those breakup rumors turned out to be bollocks.

Festival staples the likes of The Shins, Bassnectar, Kendrick Lamar, The Black Crowes, Slightly Stoopid, The Roots, Steve Aoki, Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, Bloc Party and Gov’t Mule are also slated to get their Hangout on, with more acts to be announced soon. Surf over to the festival’s official site for tickets and other info. Hang loose, y’all!
