That was a long-winded introduction to ‘80s songs from people who ascended to fame as fascinating young people in the 1960s. It can go one of three ways:
The Good:
Rod Stewart, “Young Turks”
Pete Townshend, “Let My Love Open the Door”
Tina Turner, “What’s Love Got to Do With It”
Not everyone totally embarrasses themselves. Sometimes it’s possible for way-old people (Pete Townshend was 35 years old in that video, so ancient and nearly dead) to embrace “new sounds” and contribute something to the kidz. Will any of the youths on the Infinity Cat roster gift the world their “Young Turks” equivalent in 15 years? Let’s hope so.
(Note: I fucking love “Let My Love Open the Door,” so the placement here is not up for debate.)
The Bad:
Starship, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”
Or you could double-down on the worst impulses of whatever new wave pop culture is riding on. Didn’t KoRn (great band name) try a dubstep album? I don’t remember and I refuse to add any of those words to my search history.
The Sad Dads:
David Bowie and Mick Jagger, “Dancing in the Streets”
Guysssssss you’re embarrassing me. You're both better than this.
