Morrissey Postpones Jan. 29 Ryman Appearance and More Due to 'Bleeding Ulcer' [Updated]

Bummer news for ticket-holding fans of iconic crooner and onetime Smiths frontman Morrissey: Reuters reports that the Mozfather has canceled six of his upcoming tour stops — Tuesday night's appearance at Nashville's own Mother Church among them — due to a "bleeding ulcer." Yikes. And when we say "bleeding" in this instance, we're not using the British slang term. Unfortunately. From the report:

"Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his representative Lauren Papapietro said in a statement. ...

Due to his bleeding ulcer, Morrissey is postponing his upcoming shows in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska, Papapietro said.

He plans to resume his tour on February 9 in Las Vegas.

This report of course comes on the heels of several other cancellations last week, initially reported as being the result of a suspected bladder infection.

We'll update this post with any news that comes our way regarding refunds or a rescheduled date. In Morrissey's honor, feel free to read fellow Creamster Adam Gold's feature — in which he describes how Moz is the "Anti-Nugent" — or check out the symptoms of a bleeding ulcer. Again, yikes. We of course wish the singer a full and speedy recovery.

Update: The Ryman sent along an official announcement:

Following hospital treatment Morrissey has been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer and the upcoming engagement at Ryman Auditorium on January 29, will need to be rescheduled. Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time. The tour will resume in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 9. Patrons are encouraged to hold on to their tickets as all rescheduled dates will be announced within the coming days.

Morrissey apologizes greatly for any and all inconvenience and looks forward to continuing his US tour.
