Spurgeon's General Warning: Cold

Posted By on Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 1:31 PM

As a wise but unremembered person in my Twitter feed said on Dec. 26, “Well, now it’s just winter.” I’ve never had a problem with winter, though: Everyone looks good in coats, and no one’s gross and sweaty. And as the wise and dead Dorothy Parker once said, “Every year, back comes spring, with nasty little birds yapping their fool heads off and the ground all mucked up with plants.” IKTR. In the meantime, let’s celebrate this frosty season with thematically relevant YouTube clips.

Bangles, “Hazy Shade of Winter”

Why this is better than Simon & Garfunkel:

- faster
- more rockin’
- better-looking people
- cool guitars and stuff
- Prince was maybe there?

Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban “Baby It’s Cold Outside”

I’m in the “Not Date Rape” camp. Where do you fall?

The Cure, “Cold”

I spent entirely too many minutes of my life looking for this old article about Robert Smith doing coke in front of a webcam. I thought searching the Scene archives for “Chinese food poop van” would do the trick, but I had to call on higher powers to point me in the right direction. Do your day a favor and read (or reread) the article. Do your life a favor and bookmark it.
