Weekend Round-Up: Escape From LA Style

Here we are in the no-man's land — the stretch between Christmas and New Year's, when we're all a few pounds fatter and a few ticks more seasonally depressed. It's a no-man's land not unlike, say, the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Los Angeles in the 1996 action romp/Escape From New York sequel Escape From L.A. — a Kurt Russell vehicle set, naturally, in the year 2013. (Side note: Other post-apocalyptic films set in 2013 include The Postman and The Book of Eli.) Also, seeing as how music listings editor Adam Gold is currently in Los Angeles, this week's round-up theme was kind of handed to me on a silver platter.

Despite the post-apocalyptic conditions out there, we still have a decent sampling of enticing shows going on this weekend. Tonight you're looking at: Rwake with Hellbender at Exit/In; D. Watusi's official Dark Party album release show with The Paperhead and more; Grimey's birthday party with Hugh Mundy and Jones Brothers at The Basement; Frances and the Foundation at The 5 Spot; a hip-hop night at The Stone Fox; and plenty more. Tomorrow you've got: Self's sold-out appearance at Exit/In featuring Forget Cassettes; The Long Players doing Tapestry at Mercy; Paul Thorn and Steve Forbert at 3rd & L; Pity Sex with Waxahatchee and some others at The Owl Farm (correction: not on New Year's Eve, contrary to its inclusion in our NYE flow chart); Juke Night with Patrick Sweany at The Basement; and more. Have a look at the rest — compiled by music listings editor Adam "Snake" Gold — after the jump. Let us know what we missed, and have yourselves an action-packed weekend.
