* Last we heard from Jack White's Nashville-based Third Man Records, they were releasing a single from Kiwi crooner Willy Moon. Well, just last week the TMR folks announced that they'll be releasing — now "widely available on vinyl and iTunes for the first time ever" — Public Nuisance's Gotta Survive LP. "Produced by Terry Melcher," Third Man honcho Ben Blackwell explains, "the Sacramento-based Public Nuisance laid down gritty, baroque psychedlia that was too hard for the hippies and too poppy for the punks. ... The album was shelved after the Manson Family murders took place at the home Melcher had leased to Roman Polanski. In the aftermath, all of Melcher’s projects at the time were shelved and Gotta Survive suffered that unfortunate fate." Survive will be out on Oct. 9, but you can already hear the tune "Small Faces" below or via TMR's Soundcloud page. It's an incredibly earwormy slice of shimmering '60s psych pop. Pre-order the vinyl right here.

* According to Rolling Stone, the Levon Helm Band has set a release date for the third installment of the Midnight Ramble Sessions. The Rambles, of course, were get-togethers/gigs that the late, great Helm would hold in his barn in Woodstock, N.Y., and this, the third installment of the Ramble recordings, will be out Nov. 20 via Vanguard/Dirt Farmer Music. The Stone is streaming Helm's tune "Same Thing" right now, and here's the link to the pop-out player.
