Remember that good-natured public-access silliness we told you about? Music City Shake Down? It's that weekly show (airing on NECAT Channel 19 every Friday, Wednesday, Tuesday and Sunday) wherein local bands "perform" their songs American Bandstand-style. Last time we checked in at their YouTube page, the MCSD folks had uploaded appearances from Fancytramp, Thelma and the Sleaze, Scale Model, Thunder Brother and Calicocat.
Well, the Downers have added a couple more "performances" to the 'Tube. Above you can see Promised Land doing "Down on My Knees." The Land features current and former members of Denney and the Jets, PUJOL and Turkeys, and they make a folk rock-imbued sort of barroom stomp that reminds me of Faces, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Rolling Stones and The Band. Also, honestly, one of the most promising local outfits I'm seeing lately. Fellow locals Magnolia Sons also did a number for MCSD, "Leave Your Troubles Behind," and you can see that one after the jump. The Sons — fronted by Benjamin A. Harper of The Comfies — make a sort of retro-soul/R&B that very much takes its cues from The Four Tops, Sam and Dave, Sly and the Family and any number of Stax and Motown artists of yesteryear.
Keep it coming, MCSD!
