What do Celebrity Apprentice-winning country star John Rich and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee have in common? Nothing, aside from the fact that the two were apparently in the same Los Angeles locale at the same time this morning. Really. It happened. John Rich met Spike Lee hours ago and tweeted photographic documentation to prove it. I’ll tell you what, nothing brings diametrically opposed personalities together like the culture of celebrity.
Rich is currently out West working on his latest reality show The Next, on which he’ll appear alongside similarly strange bedfellows Joe Jonas, Nelly, Gloria Estefan, Dave Broome and Queen Latifah. Given the early hour at which this pic was posted, I’m guessing Rich and Lee’s paths crossed at a radio station. Or something. Instead of confirming that, I prefer to imagine that Rich, in the throes of a come-to-Jesus moment of clarity, came to Lee looking for advice on how to do the right thing.
As seen above, Rich is smiling handle to handle. Lee is not. Here are two of the limitless questions begged by this encounter: One, what is John Rich’s favorite Spike Lee joint? Could it be Crooklyn? Malcom X? When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts? I’m putting my money on 25th Hour. And two, what is Spike Lee’s favorite John Rich jam? Could it be Big and Rich’s “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)”? The working class anthem “Shuttin’ Detroit Down”? Or his Biblically inspired depiction of heaven, “New Jerusalem”? I’m putting my money on Not Applicable.
