The Chris Crofton Show's 100th Episode, Live Tonight at The High Watt

Posted by on Tue, Aug 7, 2012 at 10:11 AM

A friendly reminder to Croftonheads: The Chris Crofton Show's 100th episode (ceremonially the 100th, as chronologically it's the 101st) will be recorded tonight at The High Watt in front of a live studio audience. I wrote a Critic's Pick on it, which you can read if you so desire. It goes like this:

A Yankee by birth, endearingly embittered funnyman Chris Crofton has earned true-blue Southerner status with local stand-up gigs, his tongue-in-cheek cock-rock outfit The Alcohol Stuntband and his WRVU-broadcast radio show Best of Bread. Bread was of course one of the first locally hosted programs to be axed in what turned out to be WRVU’s slow and painful transition into an online-only format. Local believers in terrestrial radio agree that we lost an institution when the Vanderbilt Student Communications board announced their intent to sell the WRVU 91.1-FM license to Nashville Public Radio. But Crofton and his crew of over-caffeinated wiseguys have kept the dream of frequently absurdist and genuinely inspired programming alive, launching a podcast titled The Chris Crofton Show that we at the Scene are proud to host on our music-and-so-on blog, Nashville Cream (nashvillecream.com). If you can believe it, Crofton has now recorded 100 episodes of the show — that’s more than 100 hours of great moments in professional wrestling, cocaine-fueled ’80s pop hits about speedboats, putting the local rock scene on blast (we at the Scene have even been skewered a bit, but we can take it), cameos from various members of the Crofton family and more. There was even a joke bell for a few episodes, but nobody seems to know what happened to it (ding!). Tonight at The High Watt, Crofton and associates will celebrate their 100th episode with a live taping (not to tape) that is sure to feature surprises, cameos, visual aids and coffee-fueled rants. Happy 100, boys, and here’s to 100 more. —D. PATRICK RODGERS

Doors are at 8, taping's at 9, and $5 will get you in. And if you feel like pre-gaming, check out all 100 episodes of the CCS right here.
