Lambchop Covers Squidbillies Theme Song for Aug. 5 Episode

You know, I've always thought that Kurt Wagner (lead man in Nashville's own legendary alt-country act, Lambchop) and Early Cuyler (lead man in Adult Swim's animated program about anthropomorphized hillbilly squids, Squidbillies) share a vaguely similar hat style. Also, did you know that Stuart Daniel Baker — known a bit better, especially around these parts, as psychobilly performer Unknown Hinson — does the voice of Early? Kind of neat. But here's something especially neat: Lambchop recently recorded their own version of the Squidbillies theme, and it will air Aug. 5 along with this week's episode. That may not come as an enormous surprise to 'Chop fans, seeing as how Wagner & Co. have played the tune live a time or two. As it happens, Widespread Panic, Soilent Green and Yelawolf have also done renditions of the theme, and legendary outlaw country icon Billy Joe Shaver did the original.

Above you can see a little making-of feature, in which Wagner talks about the process of recording the song — how awesome is the bit about Lambchop member Tony Crow's son and his violin contributions? The track was cut and mixed by frequent 'Chop collaborator Mark Nevers. See the theme as it will run after the jump, alongside the original version and Yelawolf's version.
