All right. So maybe it's a bit of a stretch calling this one local. But after The Black Keys' and Jack White's respective appearances on SNL, I'd say it's been a Music City-heavy season as far as talent goes. Let's go ahead and claim this one too, if only a little. Nashville-residing songstress Jessie Baylin — who put out a fine record with this year's Little Spark — can be seen providing backing vocals for The Shins on the tunes "Simple Song" (above) and "It's Only Life" (after the jump). Baylin's the blonde. That fella on keys, in case you don't already know, is fantastic solo artist and brand-new Shin Richard Swift. Swift, as I recently put it, served as "arranger, multi-instrumentalist and musical spirit guide" on Little Spark. There's your Shins-Baylin connection, and thus your Nashville connection. Unless, that is, some familial connection between Richard Swift and Taylor "Babygirl Tay-Tay" Swift can be verified.
Personally, I can't say The Shins do it for me what like they once did. But I also feel like that's the popular and lazy thing to say. So perhaps I'll give these performances one more careful watch.
