Bobby Bare Jr.'s got an IndieGoGo campaign going so he can get off the road to write and record his next album. Bare plans to write at least a couple albums' worth of material before whittling it down to the 12 to 14 songs that will make the album.
And BBJ'S campaign offers more than just an opportunity to be a patron of the arts — for as little as $10, you get to be a creative consultant. You'll receive several downloads of works in progress over the next few months, and you can offer your feedback to help select which tunes make the album.
He's already got over $13,000 of his $20,000 goal. And keep in mind that IndieGoGo projects get funded even if the artist doesn't reach the goal — though BBJ gets to keep more of the proceeds if he reaches the goal (96 percent) than if he doesn't (91 percent). It's worth noting that he's got a lot of true believers, with 37 folks contributing at $100 or more.
(You may be thinking, "Wait a second! Didn't BBJ have an IndieGoGo campaign just a few months ago?" But that campaign was actually on behalf of two filmmakers (director William Miller and producer Lee Baker) who are making a documentary titled Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost): A Film About Bobby Bare Jr.)
Bobby, while we want to help you get off the road to make your next album, we can't really say that we feel sorry for you while you're on the road. After all, getting to open four East Coast shows in March for The Guthrie Project — featuring Jim James, Jay Farrar, Will Johnson and Anders Parker interpreting Woody Guthrie's previously unrecorded lyrics — ain't exactly a drag.
