Maynard James Keenan Says He Won’t Be at Bonnaroo, But Alice Cooper and Danzig Will

Not playing Bonnaroo

So I just did a phoner with Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer dude Maynard James Keenan. Check out what he had to say when asked if any of his three bands will appear at Bonnaroo this year:

Nashville Cream: Are any of the three bands you play in gonna play Bonnaroo this year?

Maynard James Keenan: I think Puscifer was offered a slot, but we really didn’t have any interest in playing in the same tent with Danzig and Alice Cooper. SORRY.

NC: [Laughs] Why not?

MJK: Uh, it didn’t quite fit.

NC: Do you think that’s the result of people just assuming that, because of your association with Tool, it WOULD fit?

MJK: Yup. Absolutely.

NC: Is that a perception that you often have to contend with in Puscifer?

MJK: Every. Fucking. Day.

So there you have it: Expect to ingest audio/visual poison with Alice Cooper and find hell with Danzig in a tent at Bonnaroo come June. But count Mr. Keenan out of the festivities.

Keenan spoke with the Scene in promoting Puscifer’s upcoming Feb. 28 Nashville debut at TPAC’s Jackson Hall … where Monty Python’s Spamalot just wrapped up and where Yanni is set to appear on May 12. Keep an eye out for the rest of my interview with Maynard in the weeks to come.

Playing Bonnaroo (allegedly).
