We got this message from the local musician's union:
Nashville, Tenn. Jan. 11, 2011 — This Saturday afternoon, Jan. 14, the Nashville Musicians Association, AFM Local 257 will bring a flock of drummers to Hunger Beat Down, a world-wide event created by Global Drummers Alliance for Hunger Relief.Beginning at 2 p.m., drummers here in Nashville and around the planet will simultaneously play the same drum solo “Three Camps” which replicates the kind of drumming used by army camps during the Civil War to communicate with each other. The event is intended to raise awareness about world hunger and to encourage citizens to help feed the starving children of the world.
Nashville drummers and percussionists will perform in front of Fork’s Drum Closet at 2701 12th Avenue South. Craig Krampf, drummer and secretary-treasurer of Local 257, said the drummers are not collecting donations, just calling people to action. “We encourage everyone to support charities of their choice that are working to reduce world hunger,” Krampf said.
Surely some of you are conjuring visions of hippie drum circles, while others are formulating yet another drummer joke. Trust us, this will be much cooler. We guarantee. For one thing, anything involving Local 257 secretary-treasurer and drummer extraordinaire Craig Krampf is OK in our book. (Krampf played drums on Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" and The Motels' "Only the Lonely," not to mention Son Volt's album Trace.)
But speaking of drummer jokes, how do you tell if the stage is level? (Answer after the jump.)
Drool is coming out of both sides of the drummer's mouth.
