"Laughing Eye Weeping Eye performances are akin to watching a vaudevillian story-teller in a medival [sic] church with gospel singers, gnomes and goats."
So begins the band's website. And what more do you need to know? (No idea if TobintheGnome is one of the gnomes involved, and by even mentioning the possibility, Cream in no way means to suggest anything inappropriate involving Tobin and goats.)
Just checked out "Aria Darling" from Grandpa Egg's album Songs for My Cat. It's an intriguing morsel of rootsy psychedelia that sounds like Syd Barrett reborn as a freak-folk artist.
Of course, this show would be worth it for The Cherry Blossoms alone. The Blossoms were freak-folk years before there was such a term. Between Peggy Snow's elfin, otherworldly vocals and the gloriously shambling racket provided by guitarist John Allingham, drummer Chris Davis and whoever else shows up, it's always worth the trip. You can hear a whole bunch of their music here.
The show starts at 10 p.m. Central Springwater Time.
