The Dream of the '90s Is Alive in Nashville: Portlandia at Marathon Music Works Feb. 24

Surely many among you self-deprecating hipsters — or simply folks with a laptop, television, cable or Internet access and a sense of humor — have seen IFC’s original series Portlandia, which gets the bulk of its street cred from having been created by, written by and starring Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of Wild Flag and Sleater-Kinney fame.

Assuming you live in a cave in the shape of a square that affords you only basic cable and an addiction to reality program, the above clip should explain Portlandia's premise in a much more entertaining fashion than I could ever attempt. But if you’re lazy, or reading this on your phone or something, it’s basically a sketch comedy show that parodies the hilariously serious, socially conscious altern-adults and rejuveniles living out their Gen-X dreams in this dreamy, romanticized Northwest anti-reality bubble.

Hooked yet? Awesome. Then you’ll be glad to know two things: The second season started last week, and a live tour version of the show has been extended an additional week that includes a stop at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works on Feb. 24. Tickets go on sale right here beginning tomorrow, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m. So get ready to put a bird on, it and if things get too intense, don’t be afraid to yell “Ca-Cao”.
