* Not long ago, recent Scene covergirl Nikki Lane performed a rather Christmas-y live rendition of her "30 Days In," and local videographer (and songwriter in his own right) Will Holland got the whole thing on camera. You'll notice Lane's right-hand woman, Carey Kotsionis, helping her out on vocal harmonies, per usual. Which reminds me, Lane and Kotsionis will debut their High Class Hillbilly storefront on Thursday, Jan. 12, and we'll have a little preview of that in this week's forthcoming dead-tree edish.
* You may recognize local songstress Kat Brock as a member of indie ensemble By Lightning!, or as a onetime member of Dixie Dirt, or, you know, just as a local songstress. Amy Hobbs — who's done a lot of work for Matt Moody lately — shot a semi-live (and by "semi-live," I mean that there are some overdubs in there, too) video for Brock's "A Promise Made Is a Promise Good." See that one after the jump.
* You know the problem with most power trios? They only have one bassist. Not Tower Defense, however. Defense — who played The 5 Spot last Thursday and feature two-thirds of dearly departed math-rock trio Apollo Up! — avoid that common misstep by featuring both AU's Mike Shepherd on bass and his wife Sarah ... also on bass. See Tower Defense doing their tune "The Actor" here or after the jump.
Oh, and props are due to We Own This Town's Twitter page, where I first discovered no less than two of the above vids.
