Party & Bullsh*t: This Week in Nashville Hip-Hop [Jelly Roll, Starlito, Dice, Aphropik, Strange Customz, Music City Rap Up]

Oh snap! Looks like 2012 is gonna be a hot one! I think we can all agree that 2011 was a banner year for hip-hop here in town, and if this week's crop of new music is any indication, the new year is going to be even better. I gotta good feeling about it, a sneaking suspicion that all of the different ends of our scene — from the streets to the dorm rooms — are all going to gain some traction in the outside world. Case in point, the new Jelly Roll mixtape, Mid Grade Miracle, bangs so hard that everybody else in town is going to have to step up the game if they want to keep pace. I haven't always been a Jelly Roll fan, but the dude's flow has hit this butter-and-grits plateau that is simultaneously rough and smooth. And damn it, I cannot get enough. The beats are tight as hell and Jelly's storytelling is stronger than ever, so really you have no reason to not download this record. Get it over on Hulkshare.

Aight, let's get the P&B party bus on the road! More Nashville hip-hop after the jump!

* Damn it, I really want to post the full version of Starlito's new mixtape For My Foes, but it's not up yet! I've seen the rough cut, but I can't post it! This is frustrating because: 1. Nothing makes me happier than a new Lito record, and 2. The whole "video mixtape" concept is really fucking cool, and 3. There's a fucking genius track about soap. Yes, it's a song about soap and probably one of the most clever tunes I've heard in ages. Suck on that you sappy-ass singer-songwriters. But ya, it's a really good movie, er, mixtape. Let's call it a movie-tape! Follow Lito on Twitter to see when it drops. Or you can come hang out a my house, as I'll probably watch it again this afternoon.

* Continuing the "Murfreesboro makes for good music videos" trend we've got going on in this column, here's the newest one from Dice featuring Yelawolf associate Rittz and local producer/MC Matic Lee. The song itself is, well, damn good — lyrically taut with a really soulful hook and choice tones throughout — but the clincher for me is seeing Rittz in an apron just chillin' on Main Street in the 'Boro. Also, there's a cut that makes it look like he's flipping off the probation office, a sentiment I subscribe to wholeheartedly.

* Aphropik dropped the first single, "No Linear Clocks," from her upcoming album. It's a woozy, fuzzy little psyche gem with some gnarly guitar and way-out-there lyrics. It's kind of lo-fi compared to the rest of this week's selections, but that ain't a bad thing. Grimy, lo-fi psyche-rap is definitely my steez — I'm definitely pumped about the full length.

* Strange Customz are back with a new EP of dark, sardonic — dare I say it — mean-spirited electro-rap. They make fun of new-school hippies and the beats are tight, so obviously I'm on board 110 percent.

* And in case you just can't let 2011 go — And who would blame you? — DJ Raw Tunes posted the Music City Rap Up mixtape featuring Jelly Roll, Black Catfish, Gemini Twins, Openmic, Dee Goodz and more. Put it in your time capsule, so your great-grandkids will know the score. Grab it on Dat Piff.

Dice is that real shit. Listen to some of his other tracks...nobody puts as much real shit and emotion into their music like he does. Mad respect.
