When fellow Creamer Adam Gold and I caught word of these two show announcements, we briefly entertained the idea of making it a blind item — you know, "Pair the artist with the venue!" But aside from the opportunity for a few cheap punch lines, I don't think there'd be any point to that. We all know who's playing where. So here it is: Rapper/singer/actor Drake will play Bridgestone Arena on Feb. 17, and rapper/ ... well, just rapper Nelly will play Limelight on Jan. 20. And before you go scoffing in regard to how many tickets current chart-topping superstar Drake can sell as compared to onetime chart-topper and hip-pop elder statesman Nelly, consider this: Though both have been nominated multiple times, only Nelly has won a Grammy. In fact, he's won three. Also, name three Nelly songs off the top of your head. ("Hot in Herre," "Shake Ya Tailfeather" and "Country Grammar" come to mind.) Now name three Drake songs. (Well, there's definitely the one with Rihanna that Florence and the Machine covered ... but maybe that's just a sign that I'm not paying attention to the charts the way I was about a decade ago.)
Tickets to Nelly's show at Limelight are available right here, and tickets for Drake's show at Bridgestone — which will feature openers Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky — will be available right here at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
