Designed by Ovvio Arte’s Veta & Theo, the Screws cover art — which, as you can see, features a photo of singer Jessi Darlin wincing while one of her bandmates digs for treasures buried up in her nasal cavity — takes its place among other 2011 Worst-Album-Cover honorees as William Shatner, T-Pain, Limp Bizkit, sun-and-surf-inspired singers Brian Wilson and 311, and come-heroin-or-high-water rockers Steven Tyler, Scott Weiland and Jane’s Addiction.
In the past, the list has included digs at local releases the likes of Jensen Sportag's 2007 self-titled full-length and Kings of Leon's breakthrough effort Only by the Night.
Is it a well-deserved decoration for Those Darlins? Or is it a slight against the band’s artistic life choices? Disgusting as its implications may be, does the Jessi Darlin’s nose-pick capture really merit a mention alongside an album called Shit Is Bad … But Diarrhea Is Worse? Click here to peruse the full list yourself. Or venture after the jump to see a couple handpicked comparative examples.
Anyway, Darlins, hats off and congrats to y’all!
