It’s been a minute since we heard from riff-rockin’ local power duo Hurts to Laugh, but in the band’s latest video, uploaded YouTube-style last week, Cliff Cobain and Kurt Burton — now the pair’s morbid noms de guerre — are aiming to have their voices heard louder than ever. So what do they have to say? NOTHING! Literally.
Described as capturing the Nashville lol cats fighting the law and “keep[ing] it real in the mean streets of Nashville,” the clip — for sing-songy, bravado-rife “Na Na Na” — is an apparent commentary on the day’s nation-sweeping Occupy movement. H2L’s alternative: Occupy Nowhere.
Set in an off-Lower Broadway parking lot — hey, that’s somewhere ... just sayin’ — the clip shows the band leading a blank-sign-brandishing picket line of mock protesters in a nihilistic political jam session. And from the looks of the video, it appears as though the Metro fuzz was a tad bit kinder and gentler with this hurtin’ Laughing stock and their minions than the Tennessee Highway Patrol recently was with their Occupy Nashville counterparts.
Keep an eye out for meals at Mitchell Deli, a thirst-quenched canine and a cameo from Superdrag’s John Davis and Tom Pappas.
