So everyone remembers The Ettes' mad LOL-worthy, Tom Scharpling-directed, Patton Oswalt-featuring music video for the tune "Excuse," right? (And since we're on the subject of Tom Scharpling, if you haven't seen his tweets about Lou Reed in Starbucks and the ensuing cartoon, do yourself a favor and click those links.) To quote my own synopsis of the "Excuse" video's plot, "it features lovable intellectual curmudgeon Patton Oswalt as Scharpling, admitting that he is a 'bad guy with a lot of deep vices,' and that he blew the video's $81 million budget on some 'personal items' and 'services.' The video 'suffers' as a result, with the Nashvillian Ettes fighting unseen, fantastical CGI characters who were never CGI'd in ... "
And the laughs, they did roll in. But just because the concept of the video was a playfully meta take on the video's concept being bungled, well, that doesn't mean that some talented video-editor type can't "finish" the thing. As you'll see at The Ettes' site, the trio is hosting a contest in hopes that someone will do just that. There are various submission "rounds," as the contest runs between Nov. 14 and Dec. 19.
