In mid-September, when Adam Gold first wrote about Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost): A Film About Bobby Bare Jr., the team behind the documentary — director William Miller and producer Lee Baker — had raised a meager $670 toward their goal of $25,000 to help them complete the film, via an IndieGoGo campaign.
But that was with 49 days left to go on their campaign. Now, with just four days left, they've raised almost $13,000 — a respectable sum, though still well short of their goal. The film, which is part of renowned filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker's Living Archive project, is in post-production, and was featured just yesterday in a piece on indieWIRE.
In case you're thinking, "What's the point? They won't reach their goal so they won't get funds," you should know this: Unlike Kickstarter, IndieGoGo projects get money even if they don't reach their goal. They get charged a heavier commission if they don't reach the goal (9 percent vs. 4 percent), but they still get funds. Ten dollars will get you a shout-out in the film’s ending credits, while $100 gets you a signed poster, $500 gets you a private screening and $20K gets you a full-on executive producer credit. You know you've always wanted to get into the movies ...
