Janet Timmons' 30th Birthday Rock and Roll Trivia and 8 off 8th Tonight at Mercy Lounge

Posted By on Mon, Sep 19, 2011 at 2:39 PM

Nashville rock fans are familiar with Janet "Out the Other" Timmons, yes? The local scene booster, SoundLand communications director, former WRVU DJ and occasional blogger/podcaster celebrates local music on the reg, so now it's local music's turn to celebrate her. Timmons hits the three-decade mark today — happy birthday, Janet! — and tonight's installments of the weekly Rock and Roll Trivia and 8 off 8th will be held in her honor.

Tonight's soiree is sponsored by SoundLand and will feature performances from Bad Feeler, Codaphonic, Hands off Cuba, Happy Little Trees, Jamison Sevits, Little Bandit, Roy Ira and Secret Sects. Some good tunes in there, from "catchy riffs and lean pop ditties" to "captivating instrumental melodies." There will be a "liberal sprinkling of Paul Simon covers" because, like yours truly, Timmons recognizes the brilliance of Paul's catalog.

In addition to hearing some solid tunes, tonight's attendees will have loads of opportunities to win or buy SoundLand wristbands. Winners of tonight's Rock and Roll Trivia sesh will win six free passes — you can also buy passes on site without having to pay those pesky service charges. And that, friends, is the greatest gift of all. Besides, like, free cable or membership to a cheese-of-the-month club or something. Trivia starts at 7, bands play at 9, and as always, admission is free.
