In case you've slept on picking up tickets to Wilco and Nick Lowe's two-night stand at The Ryman in October, no need to wake up now, as both shows are sold out. While that's a big Bummerino Metropolis for local ill-prepared Wilco fans, there's still hope for the Nick Lowe faithful among you.
Turns out Basher will appear as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's weekly Songwriter Session series on Sat., Aug. 20 — the same day as the Cream Party at Third Man (FYI). Lowe will perform a solo acoustic set of songs from his forthcoming LP The Old Magic — which drops Sept. 13 on Yep Rock — followed by a little Q&A. Any Lowe fans who caught the Jesus of Cool's 2008 solo soiree at The Belcourt knows they'd be fools to even remotely entertain the idea of not going to this, as Nick the Knife's between-song banter and bon mots are as cutting and witty as his vast canon of songs is spectacularly infectious.
Click here for info, or read on to have me tell you that the songwriter sesh, as mentioned, goes down on Aug. 20 at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free for museum members, otherwise it's included in tickets for a Saturday visit, which is never a bad call.
