If it's even the slightest bit dusty or wistful, or if it's steeped in any sort of old-time/Southern tradition, exceptional Scene contributor Jewly Hight will have something to say about it. Take, for instance, her feature on Gillian Welch's (and Dave Rawlings', really) The Harrow & the Harvest, which Hight called "full of intricate narratives that revisit rural life with a magnetic mystique — not unlike that of Bobbie Gentry's best story songs — and a haunting, unhurried and highly developed melodicism."
Well, Welch has just announced that she'll be touring in support of Harrow, and her tour will include a stop at The Mother Church here in her adopted hometown. Welch will play The Ryman on Dec. 1, and tickets will be available right here beginning Friday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. Welch and Rawlings were on Fresh Air a couple weeks back, so if you feel like peeping Terry Gross (aka The Gross Meister) nerding out most supremely — as she is wont to do — go ahead and click here.
