All right, so you didn’t make it to Bonnaroo or Pitchfork, Coachella and Lollapalooza are all out of the question and you can’t drum up the funds for the next Bruise Cruise. Or hell, maybe you can and you’re just worried all the opportunities to drink under the sun to the soundtrack of live rock 'n' roll have run out for the year. Well, insert a triumphant “bump-bada-dump-bada-daaahhh!” here, as there is one such opportunity left in summer 2011, and it’s going down next Sunday, Aug. 14. (Ignore where it says "August 13" on the flyer. The show got pushed back a day.) The questionably titled Free Beer Island fest features the likes of Turbo Fruits, Majestico, Bad Cop, Cannomen, Denney and the Jets and Ranch Ghost. There’s also a special guest called “Big Boys.” (Who could it be? a couple brothers from your ‘hood, perhaps?

Despite the name, I understand that any beer you acquire without cost upon arrival to Free Beer Island will be purely happenstance, as there’s a strict BYOB policy. And while the show itself is free, you’ll need eight bucks in advance or $12 the day of the show for ferry access to the island — a charge you could possibly avoid with the aid of a boat, sturdy flotation device or a set of burly swimming skills. And here you thought you wouldn't find a use that cooler you bought for Bonnaroo again.
The Free Beer Island Show has apparently been canceled.
