Well, there are rock options around town for would-be show attendees. There's the sold-out Bon Iver show at The Ryman — for which contributor Ryan Burleson penned a fine preview. There's a show at Springwater featuring Fancytramp, The Grayces and the debut of King Karl (Cy Barkley's latest project). It's good to have options.

But what about folks who like to laugh? Cream contributor and former Cream Cap'n Steve Haruch doesn't like stand-up comedy. Generally, he's not exactly a fan of intentional comedy on the whole. But to each his own, I say, and some people like comedy music/music comedy. (I owned a cassette copy of Ray Stevens' Surely You Joust as a boy, and I wore that shit out. "Smokey Mountain Rattlesnake Retreat," y'all!) Point is, Nashville- and LA-based comedian (and wife of onetime Scene cover model Ralphie May) Lahna Turner is hosting something called Music City Comedy Night tonight at Zanies. The show will feature performances from Ralph Martin, Scott Hill, Matt Nolen, Steve Goodie, Chad Riden, Chris Killian and Mark Anundson.

Turner & Co. are trying to make this a monthly event (next performances are Aug. 24 and Sept. 21), so if you'd like to perform in the future, email lahnaturner[at]yahoo[dot]com. So, yeah. Comedy. Music. Shits and gigs. Now you know.
