Any Nashville rock fans who saw The Jesus Lizard at Exit/In two years ago know they'd sooner forget their own birthday or country of origin before they forgot how unspeakably awesome that show was. And any locals who failed to attend, robbing themselves of such cherished memories, are probably still trying to forget how foolish they are, and forgive themselves for doing whatever it is they ended up doing that night instead.
Well, it looks like those who were there will get to relive the show, and those who missed out will get a second chance to see what it was like.
While it isn't the same as the real, in-the-flesh experience — which, if you were there, you'd know involved a lot of flesh — the band is releasing a concert film called Club. Directed by local filmmaker Matthew Robison (Silver Jew, We Fun), the film — which is set for release on DVD Aug. 23 — captures the then-reunited band's entire July 14, 2009, Nashville performance, which, as you may recall, was their first in the United States in over a decade. And as I recall, it was among the five best shows I've seen in my five years living here.
According to an email from Robison, the DVD will also include MP3s for the whole show. He says the band is also considering releasing the show's audio as a limited-run vinyl release. (Fingers crossed.) The DVD already even has an item page on Amazon, see?
